The BLOKES Project

The BLOKES Project includes a new dance work researched with family and community elders in their truck yards, sheds and vehicles investigating the myths, truths and stereotypes of how to be a man in Australia and when this inherited cultural narrative helps or when it hurts.

Dance artists Matt Cornell and Joshua Thomson are drawing on their experiences during speed-apprenticeships with men in the extreme north and their own history growing up in outback Australia. Through gathered stories, physicality and overall no-nonsense approach The BLOKES Project seeks to make space around what it is to be a bloke in our cultural narrative.
